Ceramic Route – Archaeological Discoveries From Penny's Bay

5/1/1991  24/3/1991

An archaeological excavation conducted in 1986 at the Penny's Bay site in northeastern Lantau yielded a number of Southeast Asian pottery sherds as well as several thousand pieces of Jingdezhen blue and white porcelain fragments. These evidences suggest that Hong Kong might involve in the maritime trade between Ming traders and the Europeans. This exhibition is going to present the significant finds from Penny's Bay. Supplemented with completed Ming Jingdezhen wares, ship models, old maps and paintings, the exhibition will illustrate the world sea trading pattern in the 16th century and above all, the cultural exchange between East and West.
