Introduction

The Battle for Hong Kong – Hong Kong under the Camera of the Japanese Army Photo Exhibition

22/6/2002 – 1/9/2002

With the photos taken by the wartime reporters of the Mainichi Newspaper in Japan, the exhibition records the process of Japanese occupation of Hong Kong in 18 days from 8 to 25 December 1941. The 70 photos on display shed light on the New Territories, Kowloon Peninsula and Hong Kong Island in different perspectives, and help fill the gap of Hong Kong's visual images during the Second World War. Besides, a documentary film entitled "The Fall of Hong Kong" made by the Japanese army was shown in the gallery. It was obtained from the Imperial War Museum in England, which captured rare shots about the Japanese attack on Hong Kong.
