Introduction

Highlights of the "Collection Campaign Related to Dr Sun Yat-sen and the 1911 Revolution"

Until 21/2/2005

1/F Lobby, Hong Kong Museum of History

In early 2004, the HKSAR Government acquired the Kom Tong Hall at 7 Castle Road, Central and announced its conversion into a Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum. The preparation work of the new Museum has started simultaneously and a working team from the Hong Kong Museum of History was formed to refurbish this historic premises into a modern museum facility. As the backbone of every exhibition is its artifacts, a collection campaign related to Dr Sun Yat-sen and the 1911 Revolution was held from May to August last year, through which artifacts, archival records and audio-visual materials of Dr Sun and his contemporaries in late Qing and early Republican periods were to be gathered. Within a span of merely four mouths, the campaign was so welcome that a substantial number of items have been received. To express our sincerest gratitude to these generous donors, we have purposely chosen some highlight object and categorized them into calligraphy, old book, letter, document, postal and numismatic items for displays. It is hoped that this exhibition will motivate you into making a timely donation.
