Special Exhibition Gallery,
Hong Kong Museum of History
Football is one of the world's most popular sports played and watched by millions of people all over the world. People have played with a ball for thousands of years; forms of football appear in records of ancient China, Japan and Mexico. England was the birthplace of the modern professional game of football. Football is an important part of England's heritage, the way of life and sense of identity of its people.
Jointly presented with the National Football Museum, England, and in collaboration with the Hong Kong Football Association, this exhibition will present soccer as an iconic sport with a worldwide appeal and a following that has grown exponentially over the last two decades. It will also explore the early origins of football across the world, the story of FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association), the World Cup, superstars of the past and present, and much more. It will also include a section on the history of football in Hong Kong. Through interesting artefacts, photographs and audio-visual programmes, you will relive memories of exciting World Cup matches, and famous local and international football players in their prime.
