Renovation of the Permanent Exhibition

Renovation of the Permanent Exhibition of the
Hong Kong Museum of History

‘The Hong Kong Story' permanent exhibition has enjoyed an enthusiastic response from both local and overseas visitors since it opened in 2001, welcoming more than 10 million visitors. As our museum collections continue to expand, and breakthroughs are made in innovative display techniques, it is important for the permanent exhibition to move with the times. The old permanent exhibition was closed in late 2020, and the revamping project is now in full swing. During the interim period before the completion of the revamping project, we present an exhibition titled ‘Recreating a Classic: The Best Features of the Hong Kong Story', which is an abridged version of the original permanent exhibition. Come and revisit our epic journey from pre-historic times to the 1997 Handover.

Since 2015, we have engaged various stakeholders in the consultation process, including museum expert advisers, museum docents, and representatives from the education sector, and youth and academic organisations, to get their feedback and keep them informed of the different milestones in our revamping project.

We will keep you up to date with the latest information on the renovation of the permanent exhibition through this dedicated webpage. Thanks for your attention!
