Our country has been supplying Dongjiang water to Hong Kong since 1965, serving as an important cornerstone for maintaining Hong Kong's prosperity and stability. Coming from the mountains, the continuous flow of Dongjiang water not only alleviates Hong Kong's water shortage but also symbolises the deep connection between the motherland and Hong Kong.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Dongjiang water supply to Hong Kong. To commemorate and celebrate this important milestone, the Chinese Culture Promotion Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, in collaboration with the Water Supplies Department, holds an exhibition in the lobby of the Hong Kong Museum of History. The exhibition showcases Hong Kong's response to drought in the 1960s, rare historical photos of the Dongjiang-Shenzhen Water Supply Construction Project, and the ongoing efforts of the governments of Guangdong and Hong Kong to ensure the quality and quantity of Dongjiang water supply. The exhibition also features an interactive quiz game and displays award-winning entries from a related drawing competition, allowing citizens to understand this vast water supply project from multiple perspectives.

This large-scale inter-basin water supply project, spanning 83 kilometres, was completed in just one year, with contributions from tens of thousands of builders from the Pearl River Delta, including over 200 faculty members and students from Guangdong Industrial Institute (now Guangdong University of Technology). The exhibition will showcase their stories of pouring their youthful passion into the project.

The design professionals of the Dongjiang-Shenzhen Water Supply Scheme were focused at work.

The two large water tanks in the squatter area of Diamond Hill, though primitive, were the main sources of water supply for the lower class.

In February 1964, the Guangdong Provincial Government deployed substantial manpower and resources to carry out the construction of the Dongjiang-Shenzhen Water Supply Scheme along an 80-km route from Dongjiang to Shenzhen.
