Hong Kong is a small city, but it boasts a variety of means of transport that have been introduced over the years to serve the public. Of the transport services running fixed routes, the bus network covers the widest area. The people of Hong Kong ride the bus to work, to school and when they go out in their free time. Intricately related to everyday life, the bus service remains an important part of Hong Kong people's collective memory.
2013 marked the eightieth anniversary of Hong Kong's franchised bus services. The Hong Kong Museum of History and The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd. have jointly organised this exhibition to show visitors how Hong Kong's public bus services have been transformed since they were first launched. Showcasing the museum's bus-related collection and valuable artefacts belonging to local bus companies and private collectors as well as historical images and audiovisual programmes, the exhibition also sheds light on Hong Kong's local society and lifestyles as well as the city's urban development.
