This is one of the exhibitions of the 'National Development and Achievements Series'. The Series now invites the public to revisit the history of Ta Teh Institute and the stories of its faculty and students, giving visitors insight into the development of education and the achievements of cultivation of talent for developing the country.
Ta Teh Institute was established as a full‑time liberal arts university at Tuen Mun in Hong Kong and operated between 1946 and 1949. It was founded under the leadership of the Guangdong District Committee of the Communist Party of China, with cooperation between the Communist Party of China and the patriotic democrats. The Institute offered a high-calibre professional and cultural curriculum, and brought together many renowned academics and cultural figures, including historians Hou Wailu and Jian Bozan, political scientist Deng Chumin, literary theorist Huang Yaomian, economists Shen Zhiyuan and Qian Jiaju, as well as literary figures such as Guo Moruo, Mao Dun, Cao Yu, and philosopher Hu Sheng. Through new models of school administration, the Institute cultivated an impressive cohort of talent who went on to play leading roles in the development of the country.
2026 marks the 80th anniversary of the establishment of Ta Teh Institute. The exhibition features over 60 items (sets) of artefacts related to the Institute and its alumni, as well as around 125 historical photographs and supplementary exhibits. Complemented by clippings, archives, reconstructed campus scenes, and multimedia presentations, this exhibition brings alive the establishment and development of the Institute and explores the teaching environment, campus life and development of staff and students. Visitors will enjoy a multifaceted view of the Institute’s founding history and, through the stories of its people, learn of the Institute’s pivotal role in cultivating talent and its contributions to developing the country.
